Leadership

Pastors

“Now the goal of our instruction is love that comes from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith.” 1 Timothy 1:5

Pastors are the leading theologians of the Word (thus, “pastor-theologians”) responsible to pray, teach, oversee, equip, and model mature Christianity so that the church gospelizes and disciples their neighbors and the nations toward treasuring Jesus Christ. All our pastors make up the Pastor Council.

Volunteer Pastoral Assistants

Pastoral Assistants are men who are aspiring to be pastors and seek to develop by training, feedback, serving the church, and doing a lot of the legwork for pastoral ministry. They serve at the will of the pastor of the pulpit.
To read more about pastoral assistants see The Deliberate Church by Mark Dever and Paul Alexander, pp. 166, 167.

Pastoral Interns (Spring 2024)

Most pastoral interns aspire to be pastors one day. The Bethany Baptist Church (BBC) pastoral internship seeks to develop men to be healthy and effective church members as the foundation of potential pastoral ministry. The basis for wise pastoral ministry is functioning faithfully as a church member.

Pastoral interns focus on learning ecclesiology, pastoral ministry, and sharing life together in a healthy church to strengthen their future ministry. In the readings, writing papers, and discussions we keep returning to these 3 questions: (1) What is a church? (2) What is a healthy church? (3) How does a member and pastor help a church move toward health?

The BBC pastoral internship is a 5-month part-time program learned from and shaped by the full-time program at Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington, DC. See a sample of our syllabus here. Apply to the pastoral internship here.
