Pastoral Internship

Learn about theologically-driven pastoral ministry in the context of a healthy church.

Churches form pastors.
Pastors invest in future pastors.

If you’re aspiring to pastoral ministry then you want to learn and grow to serve Christ and his church. But where can we find equipping for pastoral leadership? God has given us the local church to grow in Christ and be equipped for ministry.

Pursuing pastoral ministry can be isolating. Some are overlooked, and many don’t have any clear guidance or structure in how to move forward in pursuing the pastorate. The lack of clarity can be frustrating, anxiety-inducing, and discouraging.

We believe that God wants healthy churches and strategic pastors to prioritize potential and current pastors.

The Bellflower Baptist Church pastoral internship aims to help men like you.

We have been in a similar position as you, wanting guidance on what a healthy church and pastoral ministry would look like.

By God’s grace, I (P. J.) have helped men who aspire to pastoral ministry. I was a pastoral intern with Mark Dever at Capitol Hill Baptist Church in 2008, and have worked with BBC to equip men who are now pastoring. Our church is prepared to invest in such men, and we have a pastoral internship that has been running since 2015.

We immerse ourselves in the life of a healthy local church, share life and share Jesus together, read books, write papers, discuss and debate ideas, pushing us deeper into the life of the local church and the life of Christ coursing through his body.

If you want to apply for our pastoral internship, then:
1. Attend our 9Marks Healthy Church Weekender (we’ll cover your registration)
2. Review the pastoral internship syllabus (typical book stack pictured here)
3. Connect with P. J.or other BBC staff to ask all of your questions

If you do the pastoral internship, you will have:
 – Clarity of what the church is, what a healthy church is, and how a pastor serves the local church.
 – Confidence in how best to move forward in serving the church and pursuing pastoral ministry.
 – Community that will love you and encourage your faith and joy in Christ Jesus.

The BBC internship will help you confidently lean on Christ, love the local church, and gain clarity on the next step in following Jesus as you pursue faithful and effective Christian ministry.
